This page explains what cookies and similar technologies Luxembourg Expats uses, why, and how you can control them. It complements our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a site saves in your browser. They can be set by the site you visit (first-party) or by services embedded on it (third-party). We also use similar technologies like local storage and session storage — this policy covers all of them, which we'll refer to collectively as "cookies" for readability.
Categories we use
Strictly necessary
Required for the site to work. You can't switch these off.
- Session / auth token — keeps you signed in across page loads.
- Consent preference — remembers which cookie categories you've accepted so we don't re-ask on every visit.
- CSRF / security — protects form submissions from cross-site attacks.
Functional
Remember preferences so the app behaves the way you left it. Off by default unless you accept.
- UI preferences — feed view (grid vs list), dismissed nudges, tab selections.
- Recently-viewed / saved-search hints so the next visit picks up where you left off.
Analytics
Help us understand which features are used and where people get stuck. Only set after you accept analytics cookies in the banner.
- Google Analytics — anonymised, aggregated usage.
Third-party services
Some features rely on third parties that set their own cookies on their own domain. Their cookies follow their policies, not ours.
- Google — "Sign in with Google" OAuth, Google Maps / Places autocomplete, Google Analytics.
- Facebook — "Sign in with Facebook" OAuth. Only loads when you click the button.
- Stripe — loaded only when you reach a payment step (Club Membership, Featured Listings); Stripe uses cookies for fraud prevention.
- Freshchat — the in-app help widget may set cookies to maintain your chat thread.
How to manage cookies
- Use the cookie banner on your first visit (and any time after, via the footer) to accept or reject non-essential categories.
- Clear cookies and site data from your browser's settings (Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Cookies; Safari: Preferences → Privacy; Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security).
- Block third-party cookies entirely at the browser level — most browsers support this. Note that doing so can break sign-in, payments, and maps.
- For Google Analytics specifically, you can install Google's opt-out browser add-on.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as the product evolves. When we do, we'll bump the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also be announced in the cookie banner.
